Trade shows are a huge, multi-billion dollar industry in America and marketers are learning to see the value in continued trade show participation. Particularly for small and medium-sized businesses, trade shows can be a great way to gain exposure and get valuable feedback; many business owners say they only forgo trade shows because of the costs associated or simply because they don’t see the need.

Some of America’s most popular trade show cities may surprise you. Many of the largest trade show venues in the country serve as anchors in their respective communities and employ thousands of the town’s residents week after week. If you’re considering participating in a business trade show this year either to hand out promotional items or simply to build your brand recognition, consider a trip to one of the following cities…

Las Vegas, Nevada:

las vegas

Las Vegas was hit hard by the recession, particularly its business travel sector. Many companies were anxious about associating themselves with “sin city” and the excesses implied but Vegas is bounding back in a big way. In fact, the largest trade show in the US (measured by square footage) is held at the Las Vegas Convention Center by CONAGG. Vegas has tons of hotels to support the trade show industry and dozens of various sized venues, too.

Louisville, Kentucky:

Many people think rolling pastures and horse races when they think of Kentucky but Louisville is actually a rising star in the south. The Kentucky Exposition Center is massive and hosts several of the top 20 trade shows each year. Kentucky’s relative central location and proximity to major airports (Louisville International and Cleveland International) make it an easy, inexpensive spot for business travelers.

Madison, Wisconsin:

The World’s Largest Dairy show is held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, naturally. Wisconsin’s agricultural industry is thriving and its many large, open outdoor event venues provide great settings for some of the country’s biggest ag shows.

Orlando, Florida:

Companies love participating in trade shows located in fun, sunny cities. Orlando is chock full of exciting after-show activities and between the restaurants, amusement parks, and world class shopping it’s no wonder the Orange County Convention Center hosts many of the country’s biggest shows each year.

If you’re considering participating in one or more industry-specific trade shows this year check out the show schedule at one of the popular destinations near you. Before you pack up the company van and pitch your booth, however, make sure your team has a clear understanding of how to speak about your brand. Arm yourselves with promotional products, custom printed bags, and at the very least, a huge stack of business cards.
